Electronic smoke can greatly reduce the harm of pneumonia

Most people know that lung cancer has the highest mortality rate in the world. According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, there will be 2.21 million new cases of lung cancer in 2020 alone, and 1.8 million deaths due to lung cancer. However, many people do not know that lung cancer was actually a relatively rare cancer more than 100 years ago. What causes lung cancer to become the most common and fatal disease? The answer is the popularity of cigarettes: cigarette smoke contains more than 4000 chemical substances, most of which can promote cancer or cause cancer. The most notorious is tobacco specific nitrosamine metabolites (TSNAs), among which NNK, NNAL and NNN are the most toxic and are important components that cause lung cancer.

Is there any component that can cause lung cancer in Electronic Cigarette? Recently, a research experiment published in Cancer, an authoritative American oncology journal, gave a negative answer.

The researchers recruited 520 regular smokers who smoked an average of half a pack of cigarettes every day, and gave them different smoking cessation products, namely, nicotine free electronic cigarettes, low nicotine and high nicotine electronic cigarettes (similar to traditional cigarettes), and nicotine free and non fogging "fake cigarettes" that look like cigarettes. During the observation experiment lasting for half a year, these cigarette guns will use these auxiliary tools while using cigarettes. The experimenter will regularly check the physical condition of these smokers to see whether these tools really have a "harm reduction" effect.

Six months later, researchers found that NNAL, a toxic metabolite with strong lung carcinogenicity, was 40% less in the urine of smokers who used electronic cigarettes with high nicotine content than those who used fake cigarettes. However, the effect of using electronic cigarette with low nicotine concentration was not so obvious.

The researchers have thus reached the following three conclusions:

1. The use of electronic cigarettes to help quit smoking can indeed reduce the generation of lung carcinogens.

2. In the short term, even if electronic cigarettes and cigarettes are used at the same time, health risks can still be reduced.

3. Only when enough nicotine is provided, the electronic cigarette can play a better role in replacing tobacco.

Of course, researchers also believe that at present, it can only prove the harm reduction of electronic smoke in the short term, and more research is needed on the long-term impact

However, other agencies have reached similar conclusions. For example, researchers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also found in an experiment in 2020 that NNAL in the urine samples of smokers and electronic cigarette users was only 2.2% of that of smoke

This test again confirmed that electronic cigarettes can reduce the harm than cigarettes. "Smokers switching to electronic cigarettes can reduce the intake of tobacco related lung carcinogens and reduce the risk of related diseases to a certain extent." The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention experts said.
